What about this weather

As I sit here shivering, I feel like it’s time to tackle something controversial. Global warming or as we are now calling it climate change. I almost don’t even know where to start with this topic other than to say what a crock of shit.  Yes, I admit it. I am one of those deniers.  Actually, I’m not.  Like most things, I don’t fall into one specific category.  I don’t deny the fact that we as humans have contributed to the pollution of our Earth.  The world is littered with Superfund sites and toxic waterways.  However, since EPA’s creation in the 1970s, the United States specifically has worked to make our environment and the protection of our planet a priority.  The shape and scope of the program have done nothing but increase since it’s inception. We as a nation are more protective of our natural resources than we have ever been but if you listen to the climate change crowd, we are failing miserably.  Granted we have no control over what other industrialized nations do but still, I don’t believe pollution has anything to do with climate change.

Well, what about the polar ice caps melting? What about super-sized hurricanes or epic floods of last summer?  What about them? Have you ever heard of a little thing called the Ice Age?  What about the year without summer?  Environmental anomalies have occurred since the beginning of time, before and after humans became industrialized.  To think that we as humans have that much control over something as immense as the weather is giving us a lot more credit than we deserve. It practically gives us a ‘god complex’.

So what’s the take away on all of this?  What do I believe in? I believe we need to continue to keep our planet as nice as possible.  No one but Oscar the Grouch wants to live in a dump.  We need to track patterns and refer back to them and not get all excited when Heat Miser and Snow Miser decide to duke it out for the South. It has happened before and it will happen again.  Weather is cyclical.  If you wait around long enough the cycle will change. Will there be weird years? Of course, but, that doesn’t mean we are in for another ice age or the four horsemen of the Apocolypse.  But, if you do happen to look up and see four weird dudes on horseback in the sky, by all means, tell everyone you know that Al Gore was right about the climate and the creation of the internet.

EDIT – A few minutes after this post went live, I got this link sent to me.  Coincidence? I think not, although, pretty hysterical.
